How do I connect my vehicle to XR60 & XR80 Semtech routers for HAAS Alert

HAAS Alert supports both the XR60 and XR80 semtech devices. Wiring configurations fall into two categories: Ignition sense wiring and ChargeGuard wiring. While Semtech highly recommends ignition sensing, this article goes over wiring for both setups.

Havis ChargeGuard and GPIO Wiring for XR routers

Based on the XR60 Hardware User Guide, available at: Official Semtech Support Guide

Follow the grounding instructions provided in the guide, and use the “Vehicle Installation – Recommended basic Method” on p.34

  • For the red lead, connect directly to fuse box with a 10A fast-blow fuse as noted (This can be connected to the Input power side of the ChargeGuard if you are reworking existing installs, but the use of a fuse is still required)
  • For the white (ignition) lead, connect to the Output of the ChargeGuard.
  • Connecting the router in this manner will let it gracefully power down based on your ChargeGuard time and voltage settings, and will also provide benefit for location reporting consistency when parked in areas with poor satellite coverage
  • For the green (GPIO) lead, connect to the emergency lights as per the Digital input instructions on p.39 (unless the lighting manufacturer and equipment age require using the Analog input on p.40)
  • Ensure that the router, ChargeGuard and emergency lights are all connected to a common ground source.

Shore Power and GPIO Wiring for XR Routers

Also based on the XR60 Hardware User Guide. Follow the grounding instructions in the guide, and use the “Vehicle Installation – Shore Power” on p.36: Official Semtech Support Guide

  • It is recommended to still connect the white lead (ignition sense) to an ignition source for possible reporting and monitoring purposes
  • For the green (GPIO) lead, connect to the emergency lights as per the Digital input instructions on p.39 (unless the lighting manufacturer and equipment age require using the Analog input on p.40)
  • Ensure that the router, power distribution unit, and emergency lights are all connected to a common ground source.

After completing the wiring you need to make the appropriate software configuration settings.

GPIO and Charging Configuration

Based on the XR60 AirLink OS configuration guide available at: Official Semtech Configuration Guide

In the Services > Telemetry > Vehicle section, specify the following:

  • For all vehicle vehicles, Vehicle Ignition Wiring = Connected to AirLink Gateway Ignition sense input line
  • In the System > MCU > Power Management section, specify the following:
    • For ChargeGuard vehicles, Ignition = Enabled
    • For Shore powered vehicles, Ignition = Disabled
  • In the Services > Location > General, we recommend setting Ignition Park mode = Last Known Location Fix; this will eliminate or minimize any drift either in-station or locations with poor GNSS coverage such as urban canyons and heavy foliage
  • In the System > I/O > Configuration section, specify the following:
    • Mode Selection > Power Connector 4 (Primary IO) = Digital input and Output
  • In the System > I/O > Digital inputs section:
    • Power Connector 4 Active High/Low = Active High and Pull-up = Off
