How does Responder-to-Responder (R2R) work?

This article helps to explain what to expect with R2R.

HAAS Alert Responder-to-Responder (R2R®) alerts provide a visual warning to emergency responders that they are approaching a potential collision point with another emergency vehicle.

R2R is an add-on service to either the digital alerting transponder or Cradlepoint integration that includes small LED units mounted in the cab of the emergency vehicle.

This is a brief overview video courtesy of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical:

The following are key points regarding R2R:

  • An emergency vehicle must be registered in the Safety Cloud system to send and receive R2R alerts.
  • An emergency vehicle must be enabled with R2R in the Safety Cloud system to receive alerts.
  • An emergency vehicle must have the warning lights switch connected to the HAAS Alert digital alerting transponder or Cradlepoint router to send an R2R alert to other emergency vehicles.
  • An R2R alert will only be received or sent by a vehicle when moving. It will not send nor receive an R2R alert if it is stationary.
  • When an R2R alert is sent to the digital alerting transponder or Cradlepoint router, the LEDs will flash for at least ten seconds.
  • An R2R alert should not be sent when vehicles are platooning (following each other). Alerts should only be sent when vehicles approach each other from the left, right, or head-on.
