Azuga + Safety Cloud® Integration Setup Guide

HAAS Alert is dedicated to enhancing roadway safety through its Safety Cloud® digital alerting service. By integrating HAAS Alert with Azuga’s telematics platform, fleets— especially tow and emergency service providers—can warn motorists about roadside assistance activities. These real-time notifications prompt drivers to slow down, move over, and make safer on-road decisions. This integration helps reduce collisions and near-miss incidents by digitally alerting approaching motorists via in-dash systems (e.g., recent-model Stellantis vehicles) and popular navigation apps—without requiring additional hardware in most cases.

Integration Summary & Key Benefits

  • Roadside Safety Alerts
    • When tow personnel or fleet vehicles engage their lights or respond to an incident, Safety Cloud® sends alerts to nearby connected drivers.
  • No Additional Hardware (in most cases)
    • Existing Azuga OBD devices (on supported firmware) can trigger digital alerts; only minimal configuration is required via PTO to lighting or auxiliary switch.
  • Improved Incident Awareness
    • Allows approaching motorists more time to slow down and move over, helping prevent crashes and injuries.
  • Streamlined Activation
    • HAAS Alert handles billing and activation with the customer directly, reducing extra steps for Azuga.

Integration Setup Process

  1. Confirm Eligibility & Requirements
    • Azuga OBD Devices
      • Verify that the vehicles are equipped with supported Azuga devices (e.g., DCM970-21ZB70 or DCM970-21ZB1 for OBD-II, or DCM970-21ZB72 for JBUS) on the correct firmware version.o Firmware must be 34D0015330 or higher; device configuration should end with _4 (PTO package enabled).
    • PTO or Equivalent Digital Input
      • If you want to track a specific “on-scene” or “lights on” status via a digital switch, ensure the correct Azuga PTO cable (blue wire on 7th pin) is installed to send signals.
  2. Activation Coordination
    • Email support@haasalert.com and include your Azuga CID (Customer ID)
    • HAAS Alert will enable Safety Cloud for your account and confirm any applicable monthly or per-vehicle fees
    • HAAS Alert handles all billing directly for Safety Cloud services
    • The activation process should take up to two business days following receipt of the email by HAAS Alert
  3. Device Installation & Configuration (Supported by Azuga)
    • Install the PTO Monitor Extension Cable (if needed for digital ON / OFF signals)
      • Confirm the blue wire is pinned into the 7th pin of the OBD extension cable
      • Verify the correct voltage signals for ON / OFF states (e.g., OFF = 0 volts, ON = 12 volts)
    • Connect the Azuga OBD Device
      • Plug the Azuga device into the female OBD port, use a Y-cable extension where needed
    • Power & LED Check
      • When connected, the Azuga device's LED should light briefly during initialization, then turn off
      • Start the vehicle for 30 - 60 seconds to confirm data reporting and device health
  4. Testing & Go Live
    • Roadside Test
      • Activate the vehicle's warning lights or relevant "on-scene" function to confirm that Safety Cloud digital alerts are generated.
    • Monitor Alerts
      • Indications in the Safety Cloud Dashboard can confirm alerting behavior (e.g, vehicle icon turns orange when alerting)
      • Verify in Waze that hazards are appearing
    • Full Deployment
      • Once tested, the integration is considered live
      • You should keep VINs and vehicle information current in Azuga to avoid any mismatched data

Ongoing Management

  • Maintenance & Updates
    • If new vehicles are added, contact HAAS Alert to activate them under the same account
    • Keep Azuga device firmware up to date for reliability and feature compatibility
  • Troubleshooting
    • If alerts fail to trigger, check that the PTO/digital input is wired and signaling correctly
    • Confirm device power and connectivity (LEDs, ignition cycle behavior)
