The HAAS Alert Digital Alerting V2X Transponder ("transponder") is a cellular and GPS-enabled device that communicates the warning lights status from the connected vehicle to Safety Cloud® so that digital alerts may be sent to civilian drivers through various alerting partners.
The transponder needs a constant 12-volt power source, a vehicle ground, and a 12-volt input source to indicate when digital alerts should be sent to drivers. We recommend installing an in-line 5-amp fuse between the transponder and the vehicle power source.
Tip: The transponder monitors battery voltage and powers down to prevent unsafe voltage drops. It automatically powers on when voltages return to safe conditions.
The transponder works natively as a stand-alone device for cellular and GPS connections. It should be placed to have a clear view of the open sky. Your sales representative can provide a quote for an optional external antenna that allows the transponder to be placed out of view. This antenna is not a booster but moves the cellular and GPS reception from the transponder to the external antenna.
Guidelines for Electrical Connections
- All circuits must be fused
- Soldering and heat shrinking is always recommended
- Avoid T-Tap or Scotch Lock connectors
- Crimped connections should be secured with heat-shrink wire covers
- All connections should be secure and compliant with vehicle operating standards
Planning and Layout
- The transponder (without an external antenna) requires exposure to the open sky
- Mount on the dash near access to the electrical system
- Circuits needed include
- Battery Power (+12V constant)
- Buss Bar Ground
- Nodes (multiplex systems)
- Main warning or emergency lights master switch
- Identify all components beforehand
Warning: If you're unsure about components or connections, it is always recommended to consult the vehicle or apparatus manufacturer's schematic or contact the vehicle dealer and/or certified vehicle technician.
