Using an External Antenna with the HA-5 or HA-7 Digital Alerting Transponder

HAAS Alert recognizes that there are specific vehicle installations where an external antenna is required. This typically occurs when transponder placement prevents a clear view of the sky, such as when components are mounted deep within the dash or behind metallic windshield tints. In these scenarios, an external GPS and/or cellular antenna ensures consistent connectivity and reliable alert delivery.

HA-5 Digital Alerting Transponder

The HA-5 model does not support an external antenna. Its design assumes standard vehicle placement that provides adequate GPS and cellular signal without modification.

HA-7 Digital Alerting Transponder

The HA-7 model does support external antennas. These antennas enable both GPS and cellular connectivity for vehicles in installation environments where the signal might otherwise be obstructed. To ensure reliable performance, only HAAS Alert–approved antennas should be used. These are available through your sales representative.

Caution: The external antenna is not a cellular booster. It simply moves the antenna connectivity from inside the transponder to the external unit.

Antenna Installation

  • Ensure the appropriate GPS / LTE connection is made on the side of the transponder
  • Remove the backing from the double-sided tape on the antenna (for internal installs)
  • Mount the antenna on glass or a surface with a clear sky view (e.g., dashboard or windshield)

Note: If installing horizontally (e.g., on a dash) ensure the cable side of the antenna is facing away from the glass

Note: If installing externally, do not use the double-sided tape. Use the provided screw holes to mount the antenna to the vehicle body physically.
