How to wire the Ericsson R920 router for digital alerting

This article explains how to wire the Ericsson R920 router to send digital alerts to HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud.

Warning: When using a GPIO extensibility cable, DO NOT leave unused wires exposed. Cap or tape off unused wires to prevent electrical shorts or damage.

The R920 can be wired using one of two methods, depending on whether ignition sensing is used and which cable is available.

  • Option 1: Use the 4-pin square power port (default)
Use this option only if ignition sensing is not in use.
  • Option 2: Use the GPIO extensibility dock and cable
    Use this option if:
    • Ignition sensing (orange wire) is already in use
    • 4-Pin square power port wire is unusable for warning light activation
Option (Use ONE Only) Description Pin-Out
Connection (Option 1)
  • Use the orange wire from the 4-pin square power port cable (Input / Pin 3).
  • Connect the orange wire to the positive side of the vehicle's warning lights switch.
If the orange wire is already used for ignition sensing, Option 2 must be used.

R2R (if subscribed) will use the blue wire (Output / Pin 4).

Connection (Option 2) w/extensibility dock
  • Use GPIO 1 or 2 on the GPIO extensibility harness:
    • GPIO 1 → Pin 1
    • GPIO 2 → Pin 4
  • Connect any one of these GPIO wires to the positive side of the vehicle's warning lights switch.
R2R (if subscribed) will use one of the remaining GPIO 1 or 2 (Pins 1 or 4) wires.
Important Notes
  • Only one wire is used to detect warning light activation
  • Ensure connections are made to the positive side of the warning lights switch
  • Always secure unused wires with heat shrink or electrical tape if using the extensibility cable
  • If unsure which cable to use, contact HAAS Alert support for guidance
